Devotional on Mark 2:1-12
The friends of the paralyzed man did not give up when they saw the crowd blocking their way to Jesus. Instead, they found an unconventional way by making an opening in the roof. This shows their unwavering persistence and determination to bring their friend to Jesus, embodying the belief that faith sometimes requires creative and tireless effort.

The Fulfillment of the Scriptures
This devotional is useful for preparation for Sunday, January 26th, for the lectionary reading on Luke 4:14-21.

Hearts Will Be Revealed
Luke 2:34-35 Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”

Discipleship or Followership
Jesus had followers and disciples. What is the difference? Well, followers of Jesus are curious about Jesus. They may even attend church. Jesus’ followers, like many today, stopped following Him when things got tough. The disciples, while certainly not perfect, hung in there. This devotional addresses the difference between a disciple and a follower.

THE STRUGGLE OF SELF-DENIAL
“Then he said to them all, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” Luke 9:23 NRSV Self-denial is a spiritual discipline that is hard to practice but is necessary for our growth in Christ.
