Pastor, I Cannot Sleep
I wrote this fictional story while I was preparing a sermon on Matthew 11:28-30. Years ago I received a call from a member of a church whose son had committed suicide. This story doesn’t reflect that conversation nor are the names of the people involved real people. Any resemblance to a real person is purely accidental. Tom, Gloria, and Jimmy are fictional characters in a story I created from similar calls in my life as a pastor. Remember this is a fictional story.
WEBLOS Camp Out Part 1
Thank you for following the adventures of Doogie Growing Up in Greenhills. Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Be reminded this is pure fiction and any resemblance to a real person is not intentional. This is a serialized story. I am writing each week and posting what I write. Some weeks are longer than others. This week’s writing will be posted in two installments. I mentioned in the story Winton Woods, it is a real park that borders Greenhills. There is a Kingfisher pond where there was a bridge built by the Boy Scouts but no campground.
Growing Up In Greenhills- Week Four
Holidays are important to kids and summer ones were I think the most fun. For example, Memorial Day signaled the opening of the Greenhills pool on the weekends which in turn signaled the end of school was near. Labor Day was always a sad day because it signaled that the start of school was coming soon. The truth of the matter, we were ready to go back to school.
Growing Up In Greenhills- Week Three
I was sitting on the porch of my house when I heard the phone ringing. In the 1960s we didn’t have air conditioning so all the windows were open. I still can remember my phone number 825-6363 fifty-some years later. How is that even possible?
Growing Up In Greenhills - Week Two
We continue the adventures and sometimes misadventures of a young boy growing up in Greenhills. The town is real, but much of the storyline is fictional and so are the characters. This week Doogie and ZT go on the hunt for red-spotted salamanders.
