Devotional Reflection

Ash Wednesday begins with a trumpet blast—a wake‑up call that shakes us out of spiritual sleep. Joel describes a day of darkness and trembling, a moment when the people finally see the truth about their wandering hearts. Yet right in the middle of this warning comes one of the most tender invitations in Scripture: “Return to Me with all your heart.” God is not calling us back to shame us; He is calling us back to heal us. The ashes we wear today remind us of our mortality, our limits, and our need for grace. But they also remind us that God is not finished with us. His character—gracious, compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love—forms the foundation of our return. Lent is not about proving our devotion; it is about opening our hearts to the One who restores. Today we begin again, not in despair, but in hope.
