Genesis Series 1 -In the Begining
In the Beginning the WordThe words, in the beginning, are the first three words in the book of Genesis and the gospel of John. Before the beginning, nothing existed as we know it. There was no earth. No solar systems. No galaxies. No universe, just a formless empty void shrouded in darkness. Nothing existed OR was there something? The Apostle John, in the opening words of his gospel, tells us that “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God”. John essentially wrote that the Word was already there when the beginning began. Who or what is the word? The Word is Jesus and the Word existed before creation or time. Therefore, Jesus existed before creation or time. Go back a billion or more years and out of eternity the Lord Jesus will walk out to meet you. Jesus never began, he was already there at the beginning The Apostle Paul wrote: 15 He, Jesus, is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him, all things hold together. Colossians 1:15 -17 ESV Jesus is the firstborn of all creation. The term “firstborn” does not refer to time, but to place or status.” He was not the first being created. He is not a creature, but the eternal Creator, being “firstborn” speaks to His preexistence, not his birth or his being created. The triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) created the world and redeemed the world from the beginning of time through Jesus. Finally in Him, all things hold together. The old African-American spiritual says it well, “He’s got the whole world in his hands.” We can trust in the firstborn of all creation because the one who holds the world is sovereign over all creation. So when your personal world groans and is shaken, trust in Him, who holds all things together - even you. |
“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will, they existed and were created.” Revelation 4:11 |
