Why Waiting on God
“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord”! Psalm 27:14
I have been asked why I named my BLOG “Waiting on God?” It comes from the novel I am writing called “HoJo: Waiting on God.” I am slowly working on this book and I find that just like my main character in the book I am still, even though I am nearly 69, waiting on God for direction and strength.
A couple of years ago I found out that I have Parkinson’s disease and it changed the trajectory of my life forever. I have found myself quite literally stumbling through life - I carry a medical alert card that says “I have Parkinson’s Disease which could make me move slowly and have difficulty standing or speaking. I am not intoxicated.” If I take my medication and don’t miss any meds, I do pretty well. A couple of days ago, even though I had reminders on my phone that “yell” at me to take my medication and my watch that vibrates on my wrist, I forgot to take my medication. By the time I got to church, I was walking like a drunken sailor and trembling. I knew I needed my medication. My dopamine “well” was depleted. Fortunately, I was not driving. I took the medicine when I got to church but I couldn’t stand during worship so I sat and waited for the dopamine to kick in. Waiting seems to be an operative word for me.
God is directing me to make the Waiting on God BLOG into a much larger community. It is not just about me. I have tested the digital waters with guest writers and now want to create a BLOG writing community. I have one author writing for the BLOG and a couple more in the wings. One of the future writers has a completed book about his ministry in Asia and we are going to publish one or more chapters per week of the book. My son Matt developed a nifty application that will put all those chapters together into a digital book.
I have a couple of other projects in the development stage. I am going to write and publish a 15-day devotional called “15 Bible Verses About Waiting on God.” I have been working on a 15-day audio devotional called “Genesis-In the Beginning.” My son David has composed and performed the piano music and I am writing and recording the devotionals vocally. Lastly, I am working on collecting and writing materials for a Bible Study on the books of Colossians and Philemon. All the materials will be available for independent or group study and there will also be a secured discussion forum. The nice thing is all the stuff will be free.
I hope you all keep coming back. Plans are underway for you to be notified by email of new posts if you desire.
