Trinity Sunday 2026
What is Trinity Sunday?[1]
Trinity Sunday, the Sunday following Pentecost Sunday on the church calendar, is the Church’s annual invitation to worship the mystery of God’s triune life — not to solve it, but to stand inside it.
Why Trinity Sunday Matters for the Church
- Trinitarian identity — The Trinity isn’t an abstract doctrine; it’s the shape of Christian life.
- Trinitarian worship — Every prayer, baptism, blessing, and sending is already Trinitarian.
- Trinitarian mission — The Father sends, the Son redeems, the Spirit empowers.
What is the Church Calendar?
The church calendar is the yearly cycle of Christian seasons and holy days that commemorate the life, death, resurrection, and teachings of Jesus. It began developing in the first few centuries of the early Church, growing out of Jewish festival rhythms and the central celebration of Easter. It is important because it shapes Christian worship, discipleship, and identity around the story of Christ rather than the rhythms of the secular world.
How is the Trinity revealed in Scripture?
The Trinity is revealed in Scripture not through a single “definition verse,” but through a pattern of divine self‑disclosure in which Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are each fully God, distinct from one another, and yet united as one God. The revelation unfolds across both Testaments and becomes unmistakably clear in the life of Jesus.
Key texts:
· Matthew 28:19\
· 2 Corinthians 13:14
· John 14–17
The Trinity is not a puzzle to be decoded but a revelation to be received. Any analogy we use to describe the Trinity and say that the “Trinity is like” will be inadequate and most likely in error. As humans, we are earth-bound, and God is not. He is not of this earth; He is transcendent – existing beyond and above the created universe. (Psalm 113: 4-5)
